Sanctions and Universal Credit

Are you a parent of young children? Do you have questions about benefit sanctions and universal credit?

We are grateful to have Izabel Bahia from Policy in Practice who has volunteered her time to help us understand the sanctions that are coming into force under Universal Credit.

Once we understand the sanctions, it will become clearer what the pressures are on families and what MAHM needs to challenge on behalf of parents.

We will be having a Zoom session with Izabel on 4th May at 8pm and would love for you to join us with all of your questions. She will explain the new sanctions being imposed after the budget in March.

Contact chair@mothersathomematter.com for the Zoom link.

What are the new benefit sanctions being imposed?

How does this apply to me?

Are there ways round this?

Will it be applied the same in all areas?

What am I entitled to ?

Izabel will also help explain what you are entitled to and how this can help. She will also offer the opportunity to talk one to one in a breakout room at the end of the session.

  • Find out why so many families have to resort to Universal Credit.

  • Why can some families with incomes up to £100k claim UC and others with incomes of only £30k not claim anything?

  • Why does the tax system not help families?

  • Why can some families on £99k claim Child Benefit whilst other families lose it at £52k?

  • What other benefits am I entitled to if I am claiming UC?

  • Did you know you can claim £500 pregnancy grant if you are entitled to UC?

  • £19 billion of support is unclaimed every year - find out if you are entitled to anything.

  • How do I know if I am entitled to UC?

  • How can I work this out?

  • Does it make a difference if I am renting or if I own a house?
