Call to Action: Child Benefit Tax Charge

This is our last chance before the Spring budget to put pressure on the Chancellor to make Child benefit fairer.

Please write to your MP now to add your voice to the increasing pressure on the Chancellor to rectify this unjust tax charge.

Contacting your MP is easy, and the most straightforward way for busy mums to contact your representative is with a letter. You can find your MP here.

Using your own words and describing how the tax penalty affects you and your family will help make your letter stand out.

Below is the letter Anne Fennell, MAHM Chair, has sent to the Chancellor on our behalf. Please feel free to use the information it contains to inform your own letter to your local MP.

Anne Fennell’s (MAHM Chair) letter to the Chancellor, Mr Hunt.

We need targeted tax cuts for families with children:

  • Abolish the Child Benefit Higher Rate Tax charge

  • An end to the high marginal tax rates that punish work

  • Remove the conditionality clauses forcing mothers of preschoolers to work 30 hours a week or lose their benefits

Are you a MAHM member yet?

There are many benefits to being a Mothers At Home Matter member! Your support is invaluable to help us shout louder about fairer taxation for families and acknowledge the choices 21st-century mothers want for their children.
